The Formation and Updating of Beliefs

William Langston (he/him)–Psychology, Middle Tennessee State University

William Langston is a psychology professor at Middle Tennessee State University and is the faculty advisor for MTSU Lambda Association (MTSU’s all-inclusive LGBTQ+ student organization). Will is a founding board member of Murfreesboro’s BoroPride celebration and was recently selected as one of Focus Middle Tennessee’s 40 Over 40 in Middle Tennessee. Will has been a professor at MTSU since 1997 and specializes in teaching research methodology and cognition. His research explores the psychology of belief. As part of his research program, Will is a ghost investigator and has visited some of the most haunted places in the country. In his spare time, Will enjoys stand-up comedy and can routinely be seen bombing at local open mics.

The AIDS Crisis and Its Meanings: A Reflection

Dr. Eric Hughes (he/they)–Department of English, Middle Tennessee State University

Dr. Eric Hughes is a lecturer in the English department and a faculty member in the Women’s and Gender Studies program. He is an alum of MTSU, earning his PhD in 2021. At last year’s conference, he received the Community Excellence Award for his work as founder and organizer of the Lavender Closet Mutual Aid Project, which provides free affirming clothing to LGBTQIA+ adults in the Rutherford County area.

Echoes of Secrecy: Witnessing Lesbian Voices Through Found Poetry

Sage Chevrette (she/her)–Communication Studies, Middle Tennessee State University

Sage Roberta Chevrette is an associate professor of Communication Studies and Women’s and Gender Studies, Honors, and MALA faculty member. Her research and teaching areas include rhetoric, critical-cultural studies, media, social movements, and queer and feminist theory. She is currently developing a memoir and documentary that positions family secrets about her father’s sexuality and suicide within a socio-historical landscape to address how stigma surrounding LGBTQ+ identities and HIV/AIDS haunt individual, familial, and cultural memory.

Sage Chevrette (she/her)

Savannah Brewer (she/her)–Communication Studies, University of Memphis Global Campus

Savannah Brewer is a recent MTSU graduate and full-time M.A. student in Communication Studies at the University of Memphis Global Campus where her research focuses on gender, sexuality, and diversity in contemporary communication contexts. She has published in the journal Communication Studies and received a Top Four Paper award from the National Communication Association. She is also a Communications Fellow at the Tennessee Higher Education Commission, where she contributes to statewide branding, outreach, and strategic communication initiatives that support students and institutions across Tennessee.
